Project to improve the skills of students gets green light


In line with the Education Ministry’s proposal, the Cabinet on Tuesday gave the go-ahead for a project aimed at boosting the competency of students at 8,224 schools across the country. 

The project, which costs Bt51.904 billion yuan will provide up-to-date teaching materials as well as infrastructure such as smart classrooms or sound laboratories and digital platforms for learning. 

Of the participating schools, 7,079 are elementary schools, while 1,145 are middle schools. The budget for 2020 to 2022 will be divided into Bt10.12 billion for the first year, Bt20.619 billion and the remainder for the last year.

Cabinet approves Bt1,000 handout to disabled people 

In a move to ease the burden on handicapped people amid the Covid-19 crisis, the Cabinet on Tuesday approved the payment of an additional Bt1,000 to every disability card holder in addition to their monthly allowance. 

“The 2 million people who hold a disability ID card will be paid Bt1,000 each and can expect the payment in a few days,” deputy government spokesperson Ratchada Thanadirek said.  

She added that the Cabinet agreed on January 28 to increase the monthly allowance of the 120,000 disabled people below the age of 18 from Bt800 to Bt1,000 from October 1 onwards.
